Iris laevigata 'Snowdrift'
Iris louisiana 'Heather Stream' is a striking marginal pond plant, ideal for adding bold colour to the water’s edge. This Louisiana iris produces bright purple flowers with a sunny yellow throat, creating a vivid display in June and July. It grows at a medium rate and is suitable for planting in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile choice for many UK garden ponds.
As a marginal plant, Iris louisiana 'Heather Stream' helps soften pond edges and can contribute to a more natural look, offering shelter and structure around the waterline. Most irises prefer acidic soils, so this variety is well suited to similar conditions. Please note that, as with all irises, the tubers are harmful if eaten and should be handled with care around pets and children.
The planting depth of water above the root is 0 - 8" (0 - 20cm). You can reduce the depths of your margins by sitting the planting baskets on concrete blocks or similar. You will receive a young plant around 20 - 30cm 8" to 12" high, with some leaves and will be sent in it's rooted form to save on postal costs. It will require potting on receipt.
Supplied bare rooted, a single plant will be around 12" (30cm) high, with a few leaves.
This plants can be planted directly into boggy areas or into the bottom of lakes/ponds. If there is a liner, we suggest using a water planting basket. Use aquatic soil, topped with heavy gravel or large stones. Alternate ways can be offered if you contact us.
